The Review

This book really surprised me – the story was very well written, our protagonist was sassy and fiercely independent, I adored the love interest, Tripp, and the obvious theme of teenage pregnancy was very well handled and thought provoking. While the story focuses on Rachel, we also get an insight into many of the supporting characters, and I would highly, highly recommend this read (especially for the ridiculous price of less than £2 currently on Amazon UK!).

I’ve read a couple of teen pregnancy stories, and rarely do I feel that they’re handled as honestly as they are in Life Interrupted. The story could, at times, be uplifting and thought-provoking, but it was also very emotional and touched on some things that felt very real. I’m not sure if the author has first-hand experience of teen-pregnancy, or if this was just very well researched – but Rachel, and for that matter all of the characters in this book, felt like people you would know – they were relatable for a variety of different reasons.

The story is told by Rachel from the point of view of her life now, and with flashbacks of the events leading up to the present. This was a really great way to tell the story, it held my interest and drip-fed me information that helped to make the present more understandable. There were a few twists and turns I wasn’t expecting, that made this a gripping read, I really cared about the protagonist, I whooped, cheered, smiled, got butterflies and wanted to cry right along with her.

I found it difficult to give this book a solid rating. There is humour peppered throughout the story and it really is very well written – I’d like to try more by this author. The love interest, Tripp, *sigh* what can I say about him without giving too much away? Yes, at times the romance should have verged on cheesy. but somehow it didn’t, he’s a great character – if very mature for 18. Overall, a great read not to be missed!
